Since Mei Yaochen carried forward his family with poem in the Northern Song, Mei clan started to dedicated themselves to literature which made many of them prestigious from one generation to another. Mei Qing modeled his painting style on Wang Meng, a painter in Yuan Dynast. Mei was good at imitating Mount Huangshan, who could reach the true feelings of it. Together with Shi Tao and Hongren, he became the representative of the "Huangshan School".
